Death of Pierre Consigny
Dear comrades,
It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of our comrade Pierre Consigny (class of 1959), Inspector General of Finance, on Saturday September 7.
A graduate in law and literature, a laureate of the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and an alumnus of ENA, Pierre Consigny devoted his career to serving the public interest.
Assigned to Niger in 1963 to help modernize the country's public finances, he went on to work in ministerial cabinets, first for Maurice Couve de Murville and then for Alban Chalandon. Pierre Consigny devoted many years to housing and development issues within the Ministry of Public Works. Director of Coins and Medals between 1992 and 1995, he was also President of the French Red Cross from 1994 to 1997.
Pierre Consigny has a long-standing attachment to the Orne department, and was a general councillor from 1974 to 1988, and mayor of La Ferrière-Béchet from 1983 to 1995.
An enthusiastic history buff, in 2001 he wrote "La France et sa monnaie : un chemin de mémoire", postfaced by Laurent Fabius.
On behalf of all of us, I extend our sincere condolences to his family.
